Overview

T-ChOS is a specific mixture of three chitosan oligosaccharides (COS) that was investigated as a dietary supplement for the adjuvant treatment of surgically resected pancreatic adenocarcinoma. Chitosan oligosaccharides are low-molecular-weight, water-soluble polymers derived from the deacetylation and hydrolysis of chitin, typically sourced from crustacean shells. They are hypothesized to possess anti-tumor properties, including the ability to induce apoptosis in malignant cells, inhibit angiogenesis, and modulate the host immune response. In a Phase 2 clinical trial (NCT02139202) conducted by Herlev Hospital, T-ChOS was evaluated in combination with standard adjuvant chemotherapy (gemcitabine and capecitabine) to determine its impact on survival outcomes. However, the trial was terminated early due to slow patient recruitment.
