Overview

T Regulatory Cell Infusion is a form of adoptive cell therapy in which regulatory T cells (Tregs)—a specialized subset of CD4+ T cells characterized by the expression of CD25 and FOXP3—are isolated from a patient or donor, expanded ex vivo, and then infused back into the patient. The primary mechanism involves suppressing excessive or aberrant immune responses to promote immune tolerance. This approach is being investigated for its potential to minimize unwanted immune reactions such as graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) after transplantation, prevent organ transplant rejection, and treat autoimmune diseases. Early clinical trials have demonstrated safety and tolerability, with promising efficacy data in reducing pharmacological immunosuppression requirements in transplant recipients[7][10]. The field is advancing rapidly but remains investigational for most indications.
