Drug intelligence / Profile preview
T4N5 liposomal topical is a topical DNA repair enzyme formulation containing the bacterial DNA repair endonuclease T4N5 (T4 endonuclease V) encapsulated within liposomes. The T4N5 endonuclease specifically recognizes and initiates the repair of ultraviolet (UV)-induced cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers (CPDs) in duplex DNA, supporting the host cell's nucleotide excision repair (NER) pathway. Originally developed by AGI Dermatics (as Dimericine) for the prevention of skin cancers in patients with xeroderma pigmentosum (XP) and post-organ-transplant photosensitivity, the clinical development was discontinued in the US in 2009. Currently, companies like Chongqing Fujin Biopharmaceutical and Andros Pharmaceuticals are developing liposomal T4N5 formulations for indications such as xeroderma pigmentosum, post-organ-transplant photosensitivity, and severe photoaging or UV-induced skin damage.
