T89

T89 is a standardized botanical drug product developed by Tasly Pharmaceuticals, consisting of extracts from *Salvia miltiorrhiza* (Danshen) and *Panax notoginseng* (Sanchi), combined with synthetic borneol. While primarily developed and evaluated in Phase 3 clinical trials for the treatment of chronic stable angina, T89 was investigated as a potential therapeutic for COVID-19 due to its ability to improve microcirculation and exert anti-inflammatory and anti-thrombotic effects. In the context of severe COVID-19, it was hypothesized to prevent microvascular dysfunction and the progression of respiratory failure. The drug was made available through an expanded access program for hospitalized patients with severe COVID-19 or those at high risk of progression, and was also studied in a Phase 2 clinical trial for this indication.
