TA-004

TA-004 is an investigational topical small molecule androgen receptor (AR) antagonist being developed by Shanghai Thederma for the treatment of acne vulgaris. Acne is a common inflammatory skin condition where androgens stimulate the sebaceous glands to produce excess sebum, contributing to the formation of comedones and inflammation. TA-004 is designed to locally block the binding of androgens, such as dihydrotestosterone (DHT), to their receptors in the skin. This targeted approach aims to reduce sebum production and inflammatory lesions while avoiding the systemic side effects associated with oral anti-androgen medications. As of 2024, TA-004 is in Phase 2 clinical trials in China, formulated as a topical gel.
