TAAP185 is an innovative small molecule drug candidate being developed by Luye Innomind Pharma, a subsidiary of Luye Pharma Group, for the treatment of schizophrenia. It acts as an agonist of the Trace Amine-Associated Receptor 1 (TAAR1), a G protein-coupled receptor that plays a significant role in regulating dopaminergic, serotonergic, and glutamatergic neurotransmission. Unlike traditional antipsychotics that primarily function as dopamine D2 receptor antagonists, TAAR1 agonists like TAAP185 offer a novel mechanism of action that may provide antipsychotic effects without the typical side effects of D2 blockade, such as extrapyramidal symptoms, prolactin elevation, and weight gain. TAAP185 is currently in early-stage development in China, targeting the unmet needs of patients with schizophrenia who require more tolerable and effective treatment options.
