Overview

Tabelecleucel is an allogeneic Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-specific T-cell immunotherapy designed to target and eliminate EBV-infected cells. It consists of donor-derived cytotoxic T lymphocytes that are specific for EBV antigens. These cells recognize and destroy B-cells infected with EBV in patients whose immune systems are compromised after solid organ or hematopoietic cell transplantation. The therapy is indicated for the treatment of relapsed or refractory EBV-positive post-transplant lymphoproliferative disease (PTLD), a rare and aggressive hematologic malignancy that occurs due to immunosuppression following transplantation. Tabelecleucel is the first approved allogeneic T-cell immunotherapy in the European Union and has been granted Breakthrough Therapy Designation by the FDA for this indication[1][2][3][4][5].
