TAC chemotherapy is a combination regimen consisting of three cytotoxic drugs: docetaxel (a taxane), doxorubicin (an anthracycline), and cyclophosphamide (an alkylating agent). It is primarily used as adjuvant or neoadjuvant therapy for breast cancer, especially in cases with a higher risk of recurrence. Each drug in the combination attacks cancer cells through different mechanisms: - Docetaxel disrupts microtubule function, inhibiting cell division. - Doxorubicin intercalates into DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II, causing DNA damage and apoptosis. - Cyclophosphamide crosslinks DNA strands, preventing cell replication. The combination exploits these complementary mechanisms to maximize tumor cell kill. The regimen is typically administered intravenously every 3 weeks for six cycles[1][2][3][4][7].
