Overview

TACE-HAIC is a combination treatment protocol developed and investigated by Sun Yat-sen University for the management of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), particularly for patients with potentially resectable tumors. The protocol integrates Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE), which involves the intra-arterial delivery of chemotherapy (typically epirubicin) mixed with lipiodol followed by mechanical embolization of the tumor's blood supply, with Hepatic Arterial Infusion Chemotherapy (HAIC) using a FOLFOX-based regimen (oxaliplatin, leucovorin, and 5-fluorouracil). This dual approach is designed to maximize the local concentration of cytotoxic agents within the liver and induce tumor shrinkage, thereby serving as a conversion therapy to increase the rates of successful surgical resection.
