TACE + systemic chemotherapy

TACE + systemic chemotherapy is a combination treatment regimen being evaluated by Fudan University for the management of unresectable colorectal cancer liver metastases (CRLM) in patients who have failed first-line chemotherapy. The regimen involves Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE), a locoregional procedure where chemotherapeutic agents are injected directly into the hepatic artery supplying the liver tumors, followed by the administration of embolic agents to induce ischemia and prolong drug contact time. This local approach is combined with systemic chemotherapy (such as FOLFIRI or FOLFOX) and potentially targeted therapies (such as VEGF or EGFR inhibitors). The primary objective of this Phase 3 study is to determine if the addition of TACE to standard second- or third-line systemic therapy improves conversion to surgical resection and extends overall survival compared to systemic therapy alone.
