Drug intelligence / Profile preview
TachoComb H is a ready-to-use absorbable hemostatic agent designed for local use during surgery. It consists of a collagen sponge coated on one side with human fibrinogen, human thrombin (replacing bovine thrombin in the original formulation), and aprotinin. Upon application to a bleeding surface or wound, the components are activated by contact with blood or body fluids; thrombin converts fibrinogen into fibrin to form a stable clot that promotes hemostasis and tissue sealing. Aprotinin inhibits plasmin-mediated fibrinolysis to prevent premature breakdown of the clot. The product is indicated for achieving hemostasis and tissue sealing when conventional methods are insufficient or impractical—such as in surgeries involving parenchymal organs (liver, spleen, pancreas), vascular procedures, urology, gynecology, ENT surgery and more. Clinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy in reducing time-to-hemostasis and controlling both blood and air leakage during various surgical interventions[2][5][6]. Developed as an improved version of TachoComb by replacing animal-derived components with human equivalents for enhanced safety[6], it is manufactured by Nycomed.
