Overview

Taclantis (also known as Paclitaxel Injection Concentrate for Suspension or PICS) is a novel, Cremophor-free and albumin-free nanoparticle formulation of paclitaxel developed by Sun Pharma Advanced Research Company Limited (SPARC). Utilizing SPARC's proprietary Nanotecton technology, Taclantis delivers paclitaxel, a microtubule-stabilizing agent that binds to the beta-subunit of tubulin. This binding promotes the assembly of microtubules and prevents their depolymerization, leading to cell cycle arrest in the G2/M phase and subsequent apoptosis. The formulation was designed to provide a safer alternative to traditional paclitaxel (Taxol), which requires premedication for hypersensitivity reactions caused by the Cremophor EL vehicle, and to compete with albumin-bound formulations like Abraxane. Although a New Drug Application (NDA) was submitted for the treatment of breast cancer, the U.S. FDA issued a Complete Response Letter in February 2020.
