Taclonex + Hydrogel Patch refers to a therapeutic regimen studied by the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) for the treatment of plaque psoriasis. This regimen combines Taclonex ointment—a fixed-dose combination of the vitamin D3 analog calcipotriene and the potent corticosteroid betamethasone dipropionate—with a non-medicated hydrogel patch used for occlusion. Calcipotriene works by binding to the vitamin D receptor (VDR) to inhibit keratinocyte proliferation and promote normal cell differentiation, while betamethasone dipropionate acts on the glucocorticoid receptor to provide anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects. The addition of the hydrogel patch serves as an occlusive dressing, which is intended to enhance the skin penetration and local concentration of the active ingredients, thereby potentially improving the clinical efficacy of the treatment compared to the ointment alone.
