Taiglididine (also known as SHR-1209) is a novel, ultra-short-acting GABAA receptor agonist developed by Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals. It is a sedative-hypnotic agent designed for anesthesia induction and maintenance, as well as procedural sedation. The drug functions by binding to the gamma-aminobutyric acid type A (GABAA) receptor, enhancing the inhibitory effects of GABA in the central nervous system to produce sedation and hypnosis. Similar to remimazolam, taiglididine is characterized by a rapid onset of action and a predictable, quick recovery profile due to its metabolism by non-specific tissue esterases into inactive metabolites. Clinical development has focused on its use in general anesthesia, particularly for procedures like laryngeal mask insertion, where its dose-response relationship is being evaluated in specific populations such as elderly patients.
