Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Taipan antivenom is a polyclonal antibody preparation (hyperimmune serum) being developed by the Instituto Clodomiro Picado for the treatment of snakebite envenomation caused by the taipan (*Oxyuranus scutellatus*). The antivenom is produced by immunizing animals (typically horses) with the venom of the taipan snake, resulting in the production of specific antibodies that neutralize the various toxins present in the venom, such as neurotoxins and procoagulants. This product is currently in the preclinical development phase and is intended for human use.
