Tairilafon is a small molecule free radical scavenger developed by Nanjing Zhongrui Pharmaceutical for the treatment of acute cerebral infarction (ischemic stroke). It is a derivative of edaravone, designed to improve the pharmacological profile of the parent compound. Tairilafon works by scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inhibiting lipid peroxidation, thereby protecting neuronal cells from oxidative stress and apoptosis during the reperfusion phase following an ischemic event. The drug is formulated for intravenous administration and has been investigated in Phase 1 clinical trials in China to evaluate its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers.
