Overview

Tairuimite sodium (C0191) is a small molecule inhibitor of dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) being developed by Suzhou Changzheng-Xinkai Pharmaceutical, a subsidiary of Grand Pharmaceutical Group. It is primarily investigated for the treatment of autoimmune conditions, most notably systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). By inhibiting DHODH, the drug disrupts the de novo pyrimidine synthesis pathway, which is essential for the expansion of activated T and B lymphocytes involved in the pathogenesis of SLE. This mechanism is similar to that of leflunomide and its active metabolite teriflunomide, but tairuimite sodium is positioned as a potentially more potent or better-tolerated next-generation alternative. It is currently being evaluated in Phase II clinical trials in China.
