Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Taitsukou Ointment** (also known as *Shinsen Taiitsukou*) is an approved over-the-counter (OTC Category 2) Kampo herbal topical ointment developed and manufactured by Melsmon Pharmaceutical. Based on the traditional Chinese medicine formula 'Shinsen Taiitsukou' from the Song Dynasty's *Taipei Huimin Heji Ju Fang*, the ointment is formulated with seven active herbal ingredients: Japanese Angelica root (*Angelica acutiloba*), cinnamon bark, rhubarb, peony root, Rehmannia root, Scrophularia root (*Scrophularia ningpoensis*), and *Angelica dahurica* root, extracted in a base of sesame oil and beeswax. It is indicated for the topical treatment of burns, cuts and scrapes, itching, insect bites, and mild bedsores (褥瘡). In September 2024, Melsmon Pharmaceutical discontinued the manufacturing of Taitsukou Ointment, with sales set to end once existing stocks are depleted.
