Taizongding

Taizongding (泰中定) is an oral antiviral combination therapy developed by Guangsheng Zhonglin (a subsidiary of Cosunter Pharmaceutical) for the treatment of COVID-19. The medication consists of GST-HG171, a small molecule inhibitor of the SARS-CoV-2 3C-like (3CL) protease, and ritonavir, which serves as a pharmacokinetic enhancer. By inhibiting the 3CL protease, GST-HG171 prevents the cleavage of viral polyproteins, thereby halting viral replication. Ritonavir inhibits the CYP3A enzyme, slowing the metabolism of GST-HG171 and maintaining its effective concentration in the plasma. Taizongding received conditional marketing approval from China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in early 2023 for adult patients with mild-to-moderate COVID-19.
