TAK-593 is an oral small-molecule receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitor that selectively targets both vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2 (VEGFR2) and platelet-derived growth factor receptor beta (PDGFRβ). By inhibiting these kinases, TAK-593 blocks angiogenesis and tumor cell proliferation. It exhibits a long-lasting inhibitory effect on its targets due to slow dissociation kinetics. Preclinical studies demonstrated potent anti-tumor and anti-angiogenic activity in various cancer models, as well as potential for ophthalmic use in conditions like age-related macular degeneration. TAK-593 was developed by Takeda Pharmaceutical Company (Millennium Pharmaceuticals) for the treatment of solid tumors but clinical development was discontinued after phase I trials.
