TAK-648

TAK-648 (also known as ART-648) is a novel, orally available small molecule inhibitor of type 4 cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase (PDE4). It was developed primarily for its antihyperglycemic and hepatoprotective properties. Preclinical studies demonstrated antidiabetic effects, and translational pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic modeling supported its potential efficacy in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). TAK-648 was also investigated for autoimmune inflammatory diseases such as bullous pemphigoid and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), but development has been discontinued in these indications. The drug was originally developed by Takeda and further advanced by ARTham Therapeutics in collaboration with Oita University[1][2][3][5][6].
