Overview

TAKC-02 is an antisense oligonucleotide drug developed by TAK-Circulator for the treatment of severe asthma, particularly targeting neutrophilic and steroid-resistant forms. The drug works by inhibiting the expression of the RNA-binding protein MEX3B, which is involved in the production of inflammatory cytokines that drive steroid-resistant airway inflammation. Preclinical studies have shown that TAKC-02 can suppress both eosinophilic and neutrophilic airway inflammation in asthma models. The drug is administered via inhalation and has completed a first-in-human Phase 1 clinical trial evaluating its safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers. TAKC-02 represents a novel mechanism among asthma therapies as a nucleic acid-based inhibitor of MEX3B[1][2][4][5][8].
