Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Takelda is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) tablet containing 100 mg of aspirin and 15 mg of lansoprazole, developed and marketed by Takeda Pharmaceutical Company in Japan. It is the first FDC in Japan to combine low-dose aspirin with a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). The product is indicated for the long-term prevention of recurrent cerebral or myocardial infarction in patients with a history of gastric or duodenal ulcers. Aspirin acts as an antiplatelet agent by irreversibly inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, thereby reducing thromboxane A2 synthesis and platelet aggregation. Lansoprazole serves as a PPI, targeting the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme in gastric parietal cells to suppress acid secretion and mitigate the risk of aspirin-induced gastrointestinal mucosal damage and ulcer formation.
