Overview

TAKL is a botanical nutraceutical developed by AKL Therapeutics as adjunctive support for obstructive airways disease, including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is a combination product containing a synthetically-derived phytochemical component of Picrorrhiza kurroa, apocynin, along with standardized extracts of Picrorrhiza kurroa, Zingiber officinale, and Ginkgo biloba. TAKL aims to provide beneficial effects in respiratory conditions by reducing symptoms such as breathlessness and cough, decreasing the frequency of attacks, and potentially reducing dependence on bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroids. Its mechanism of action involves anti-inflammatory effects, with Ginkgo biloba specifically noted to reduce inflammatory cells like eosinophils and neutrophils, possibly through an effect on Protein Kinase C.
