Overview

Tamarindus indica seeds are the seeds of the tamarind tree, utilized primarily in research for their bioactive constituents, including Tamarind Seed Polysaccharide (TSP), phenolic antioxidants, and fatty acids. These seeds exhibit anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic, and antioxidant properties. Research has explored their potential in managing diabetes-related neurodegeneration, arthritis, and skin disorders. TSP, a major component, is valued for its mucoadhesive and biodegradable properties, making it a candidate for drug delivery systems and tissue engineering. While studied in various preclinical models, they are not currently recognized as a regulated pharmaceutical drug product.
