Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tamsulosin + silodosin is a combination regimen consisting of two selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonists (alpha-1 blockers) being investigated for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and acute urinary retention (AUR) associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Tamsulosin and silodosin both work by blocking alpha-1 adrenergic receptors in the prostate and bladder neck, which relaxes smooth muscle and improves urinary flow. Silodosin is highly selective for the alpha-1A receptor subtype, whereas tamsulosin exhibits selectivity for both alpha-1A and alpha-1D subtypes. This combination is being evaluated in clinical trials, such as those conducted by Mansoura University, to determine if dual alpha-1 blockade provides superior therapeutic efficacy compared to standard monotherapy.
