Tang Minling Pills

Tang Minling Pills (also known as TM81 or T50) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formulation consisting of ten Chinese herbal medications, primarily including Rhizoma coptidis, Rheum officinale Baill, Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi, and Bupleurum Chinense DC. It is classified as a botanical/herbal small-molecule multi-ingredient drug (natural product mixture). The drug is prescribed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), with evidence suggesting it may reduce blood glucose levels, improve pancreatic β-cell function, reduce HbA1c, fasting plasma glucose, and 2-hour postprandial glucose, and reduce body weight and waist circumference. It has been studied in randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials in mainland China, and is being investigated in a 12-week pilot trial (add-on to metformin) associated with the University of Technology Sydney. An earlier clinical trial (NCT01107171) was sponsored by Guang'anmen Hospital of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences in collaboration with Tasly Pharmaceuticals, Inc. No single specific molecular biological target has been identified in available sources, consistent with its multi-herb, multi-component nature.
