Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tangmai Jiaotai is a modernized Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by Sun Yat-sen University for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus and hyperlipidemia. It is a refined preparation based on the classical Jiaotai Wan formula, primarily containing extracts from *Coptis chinensis* and *Cinnamomum cassia*. The drug functions as a multi-target metabolic regulator, with its primary mechanism of action involving the activation of adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK). This activation leads to improved insulin sensitivity, enhanced glucose uptake in skeletal muscle, and the suppression of hepatic gluconeogenesis. Furthermore, Tangmai Jiaotai helps regulate lipid metabolism, reducing serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels. It has been investigated in Phase 2 clinical trials in China, demonstrating potential as a therapeutic option for patients with metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes.
