Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tangnaikang is a **traditional Chinese medicine herbal formulation** consisting of five plant extracts: *Panax ginseng* C.A. Meyer, *Ligustrum lucidum* Ait., *Prunella vulgaris* L., *Saururus chinensis* (Lour.) Baill., and *Psidium guajava* Linn. It is used primarily for its **antidiabetic** and **lipid-lowering** effects, and has been shown in animal studies to alleviate hyperglycemia, reduce bodyweight, and improve lipid profiles. The therapeutic effect is associated with **modulation of gut microbiota**, specifically increasing bacterial species richness and beneficial shifts in gut composition. Mechanistically, Tangnaikang may act by **activating SIRT1 and AMPK signaling pathways**, promoting fatty acid oxidation, and regulating metabolic gene expression. Developed and manufactured by Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, it is administered orally as a granule dissolved in water and is studied for metabolic syndrome, pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and obesity.[1][4][5][7]
