Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tangshen Qushi Formula (TQF) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formulation developed for the treatment of diabetic kidney disease (DKD). It is typically used as an adjunctive therapy alongside conventional Western medicine, such as ACE inhibitors or ARBs. The formula is designed to address the TCM patterns of spleen-kidney deficiency and damp-heat stasis, which are associated with the progression of renal damage in diabetic patients. Clinical studies, including those sponsored by the Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine and China-Japan Friendship Hospital, have evaluated its efficacy in reducing proteinuria (microalbuminuria) and preserving renal function in patients with type 2 diabetes. TQF is believed to exert its therapeutic effects by modulating inflammatory and fibrotic pathways, specifically targeting TGF-β1 and NF-κB signaling to slow the progression of chronic renal failure.
