Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tanhuo decoction (THD) is a multi-component traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by Dr. Jinggang Xia and colleagues at Xuanwu Hospital, Capital Medical University. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of elderly patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and comorbid cerebral atherosclerosis. The decoction functions through a multi-target mechanism that regulates systemic inflammation and metabolic signaling pathways. It has been shown to reduce serum levels of inflammatory cytokines, inhibit inflammatory responses, and enhance tissue perfusion. Clinical evaluation includes a prospective randomized controlled trial assessing its efficacy and safety as an adjunct to standard Western medicine (e.g., antiplatelets, statins) for reducing adverse cardiovascular events and providing cardiorenal protection in acute ischemic conditions.
