Overview

Tannquilynne is a small molecule D-amino acid oxidase (DAAO) inhibitor developed by SyneuRx International (Taiwan) Corp. for the treatment of dementia with psychosis and cognitive impairment associated with mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's disease. The drug works by inhibiting the DAAO enzyme, which is responsible for the metabolism of D-amino acids such as D-serine. By maintaining or increasing cellular levels of D-serine, a critical co-agonist of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor, Tannquilynne enhances glutamatergic neurotransmission. This mechanism is intended to improve cognitive function and alleviate psychotic symptoms in patients with dementia. Tannquilynne is described as having a well-known safety profile and human use history, and it has received FDA approval to proceed with Phase 2 clinical trials.
