Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tanyu Tongzhi capsule (also known as Tanyu Tongzhi Formula or Decoction) is an investigational traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) capsule formulation developed by the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University (Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of TCM). It is derived from the classical TCM prescription 'Gualou Xiebai Banxia Decoction' from the 'Golden Chamber Yao Lve' (Synopsis of the Golden Chamber). Tanyu Tongzhi capsule is formulated based on the principle of 'phlegm-stasis combined therapy' to treat coronary heart disease (CHD) and atherosclerosis, specifically targeting the syndrome of intermingled phlegm and blood stasis. Preclinical studies suggest that it exerts anti-atherosclerotic, anti-inflammatory, and lipid-regulating effects, potentially by promoting alternative macrophage activation (M2 polarization) via the PPARγ and AKT/ERK signaling pathways, and by inhibiting platelet activation and reducing coronary microthrombosis. It is being evaluated in clinical trials for the treatment of stable coronary artery disease.
