Overview
Taohong Tongluo is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by the Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine at the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Typically administered as a granule, it is primarily investigated for its therapeutic effects on microcirculation disorders in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and coronary heart disease. The formulation is based on the TCM principles of activating blood circulation and unblocking the collaterals (Tongluo), often utilizing a combination of botanical extracts such as Peach Kernel (Tao Ren) and Safflower (Hong Hua). Clinical studies focus on its ability to improve myocardial microcirculation and address pathological states described in TCM as blood and qi pathways being blocked, which are associated with coronary atherosclerosis.
