TAPCells is an autologous antigen-presenting cell vaccine loaded with heat-shocked allogeneic melanoma cell lysates. It was developed by Dr. Flavio Salazar's team at the Anti-Tumor Immunology Laboratory (LIAT) of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Chile. The therapy works by stimulating the patient's own immune system to react against malignant cells. Clinical trials have shown that TAPCells induces lysate-specific delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) reactions, which correlate with prolonged survival in cancer patients. Long-term studies over 15 years have demonstrated that TAPCells can achieve stable long remissions in 35.2% of patients, especially in those who were M1c-negative (without visceral metastases excluding lung) and DTH-positive. Patients with positive DTH reactions exhibited a 53.1% three-year survival rate compared to 16.1% in DTH-negative patients.
