TAR-302 is an investigational intravesical drug delivery system developed by TARIS Biomedical (now a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson/Janssen) for the treatment of overactive bladder (OAB), including both idiopathic and neurogenic forms. The system consists of a flexible, silicone-based device that is inserted into the bladder via a minimally invasive in-office procedure. Once deployed, it is designed to continuously release the antimuscarinic agent trospium chloride directly into the bladder for up to three months. This localized delivery achieves high concentrations of the drug at the target muscarinic receptors in the bladder wall while maintaining negligible systemic exposure, which aims to improve efficacy and reduce the systemic side effects (such as dry mouth and constipation) typically associated with oral antimuscarinic medications.
