Overview

Taraxacum mongolicum is a perennial herb of the Asteraceae family widely used in traditional Chinese medicine. It is known for its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiviral, liver-protecting, and choleretic effects. Traditionally it has been used to clear heat and toxic materials, reduce swelling and disperse masses, promote diuresis to treat stranguria (painful urination), support digestion and liver function (primarily via the root), and act as a diuretic (primarily via the leaf). Modern pharmacological studies have demonstrated its potential in treating respiratory and digestive tract ailments as well as mastitis and breast abscesses by modulating inflammatory pathways such as NF-κB and MAPK signaling. It contains bioactive compounds including flavonoids, triterpenoids, phenolic acids, sesquiterpene lactones, sterols, vitamins (A,B,C,D,K), amino acids minerals like calcium and potassium. The plant is also used nutritionally as a vegetable or tea substitute[1][2][4][5][6].
