Taraxasterol is a pentacyclic triterpene naturally occurring in plants such as *Taraxacum officinale* (dandelion). It has been identified as a potent anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer agent, particularly in the context of gastric diseases. Mechanistically, taraxasterol directly binds to and inhibits Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase 1B (PTP1B), a phosphatase often overexpressed in gastritis and gastric cancer tissues. This inhibition modulates the PTP1B/PKM2/NF-κB signaling axis, leading to a reduction in pro-inflammatory cytokines (e.g., TNF-α) and reactive oxygen species, while also suppressing the proliferation and colony formation of gastric cancer cells. In vivo studies have demonstrated its efficacy in reducing inflammation in *Helicobacter pylori*-induced gastritis models and inhibiting tumor growth in gastric cancer patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models.
