Overview

Tarivid is a brand name for ofloxacin, a second-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic. In a clinical trial (NCT04426409) sponsored by the Ajou University School of Medicine, Tarivid ointment is being investigated for its potential to prevent epistaxis (nosebleeds) in pediatric patients undergoing nasotracheal intubation for oral surgery. The ointment is applied topically to the nasal mucosa to provide lubrication and a protective barrier, reducing the risk of mucosal damage during tube insertion. Ofloxacin's primary mechanism of action involves the inhibition of bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes critical for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair.
