Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Taro-Methylphenidate ER is a small molecule, extended-release oral tablet developed and marketed by Sun Pharma Canada Inc. (a subsidiary of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited). Its active ingredient is methylphenidate hydrochloride, a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant. The drug acts by inhibiting the dopamine and norepinephrine reuptake transporters (DAT and NET), thereby increasing monoamine neurotransmitter availability in the brain. It is indicated for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children (ages 6–12), adolescents (13–18), and adults (>18 years of age). Taro-Methylphenidate ER is the first and only bioequivalent to the brand-name drug Concerta® that utilizes an osmotic delivery system (OROS), providing controlled, once-daily release of the drug over approximately 12 hours.
