Overview

The TARP dendritic cell vaccine is an investigational therapeutic cancer vaccine designed to stimulate the immune system to target prostate cancer cells expressing the tumor-associated antigen known as T-cell receptor γ alternate reading frame protein (TARP). The therapy involves isolating a patient's own white blood cells via apheresis and generating autologous dendritic cells ex vivo. These dendritic cells are then pulsed with synthetic peptides derived from multiple epitopes of the TARP antigen. Once administered back into the patient by subcutaneous or intradermal injection, these antigen-loaded mature dendritic cells present the peptides to the immune system—primarily activating cytotoxic CD8+ and helper CD4+ T-cells—to induce a targeted anti-tumor response against prostate cancer cells expressing TARP. The approach aims to slow disease progression in men with biochemically recurrent (stage D0) prostate cancer after initial local therapy[2][3][4][5]. Clinical studies have demonstrated that this vaccination strategy is safe and immunogenic.
