Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tart cherry juice is a beverage made from the fruit of the tart or sour cherry (Prunus cerasus), most commonly the Montmorency variety. It is rich in anthocyanins and other polyphenols, which are plant compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Tart cherry juice has been studied for its potential health benefits including reducing inflammation and muscle soreness after exercise, improving sleep quality (possibly due to its melatonin content), lowering blood pressure and LDL cholesterol, supporting heart health, aiding recovery from gout flare-ups by reducing uric acid levels, enhancing immune function through vitamins A and C as well as antioxidants, improving cognitive function in older adults via reduction of oxidative stress, and possibly supporting weight loss. While many of these effects have been observed in small clinical trials or animal studies—especially among athletes or specific populations—more research is needed to confirm efficacy across broader groups[1][2][3][4][5][6][7].
