Overview
**Tartarase** is a proprietary topical enzyme dentifrice developed by Pontis Biologics for removal of pre-existing dental calculus. It contains digestive enzymes intended to locally degrade the organic matrix associated with mineralized tartar, facilitating calculus removal during brushing and tray-based oral application. Tartarase was evaluated in a completed 4-week randomized proof-of-principle clinical study in adults with dental calculus, compared with Crest toothpaste.
