Tartary buckwheat total flavonoids (TBTF) is a bioactive extract derived from the seeds or hulls of *Fagopyrum tataricum*. Developed as a therapeutic candidate by researchers at the North China University of Science and Technology, TBTF is primarily investigated for its potential in treating type 2 diabetes mellitus and preventing bone loss (osteoporosis). Its mechanism of action involves the regulation of glucose metabolism through the activation of the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway and the inhibition of alpha-glucosidase. In bone health, TBTF has been shown to suppress osteoclast differentiation by modulating the RANKL/OPG ratio and reducing oxidative stress. The extract is rich in polyphenolic compounds, most notably rutin and quercetin, which contribute to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
