TASC1 is a selective anti-senescence therapeutic, or senolytic, developed by researchers at Erasmus MC. It is a biochemical compound designed to potently and selectively eliminate senescent cells, which are known to contribute to therapy resistance, tumor progression, and metastasis by secreting a variety of pro-tumorigenic proteins (the senescence-associated secretory phenotype, or SASP). In preclinical studies focusing on Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), TASC1 demonstrated the ability to resensitize cancer cells to radiotherapy, resulting in a synthetic lethal response when used in combination. Additionally, TASC1 has shown potential in reducing organ toxicity in vivo by clearing off-target senescent cells induced by conventional cancer treatments like chemotherapy and radiation.
