TatImmune

TatImmune is a therapeutic recombinant protein vaccine developed by Vaxxit, targeting the HIV-1 Trans-Activator of Transcription (Tat) protein. Unlike traditional HIV vaccines that primarily target structural proteins like Env or Gag, TatImmune focuses on the Tat protein, which is essential for viral gene expression, replication, and the maintenance of the viral reservoir. Tat is also secreted by infected cells, where it exerts immunosuppressive effects and contributes to chronic inflammation. By inducing specific neutralizing antibodies against extracellular Tat, the vaccine aims to block viral transactivation, inhibit the spread of the virus to new cells, and promote the restoration of the immune system in HIV-infected individuals who are already receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART).
