Tau1 peptide mixture refers specifically to a synthetic peptide comprising residues 19–34 of the tau protein, used in research settings in combination with another peptide (APP1) to interfere with the interaction between amyloid precursor protein (APP) and tau. This interaction is implicated in Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology. Intranasal administration of the APP1 and Tau1 peptide mixture in AD animal models was shown to reduce amyloid plaque formation, lower levels of soluble Aβ1–42, and preserve or restore cognitive function. Notably, the therapeutic effect was only observed with the combination of the two peptides, rather than with Tau1 or APP1 alone, suggesting the mechanism of action is through inhibition of APP–tau protein binding. This effect indicates potential as an experimental disease-modifying agent for AD. The peptides are synthetic and are not currently pharmaceuticals but research compounds for proof-of-concept in preclinical studies[1][3].
