Taukit is a diagnostic pharmaceutical product developed by Laboratoire Soludia Maghreb for the detection of *Helicobacter pylori* infection via a urea breath test. The diagnostic process utilizes the high urease activity of *H. pylori* bacteria present in the gastric mucosa. Upon oral administration of 13C-labeled urea (the active component of Taukit), the bacterial urease enzyme hydrolyzes the urea into ammonium and 13C-labeled carbon dioxide (13CO2). This labeled carbon dioxide is absorbed into the bloodstream, transported to the lungs, and subsequently exhaled in the breath, where it can be quantified using analytical techniques such as isotope-ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS) or non-dispersive infrared spectroscopy (NDIRS). The test is typically performed in conjunction with a citric acid solution (Citral Pylori) to optimize diagnostic sensitivity by slowing gastric emptying and enhancing bacterial urease activity.
