TauroLock-U25.000

TauroLock-U25.000 is an antimicrobial catheter lock solution developed by TauroPharm GmbH for the prevention of catheter-related bloodstream infections (CRBSI) and catheter occlusion in central venous access systems. It is a combination product containing three active components: taurolidine, 4% citrate, and 25,000 IU of urokinase. Taurolidine provides broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi by reacting with bacterial cell wall components and toxins, thereby inhibiting biofilm formation. Citrate acts as an anticoagulant by chelating calcium ions to prevent blood clotting within the catheter lumen. Urokinase is a thrombolytic enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of plasminogen to plasmin, which degrades fibrin clots and maintains catheter patency. The solution is intended for instillation in all central-venous access systems, including ports and silicone or polyurethane catheters, between treatment sessions. It is CE-marked as a medical device and is recommended in various clinical guidelines for patients at risk of catheter-related complications.
