Overview

Tauzyme is a catalytic antibody (catabody) developed by Covalent Bioscience to target and enzymatically degrade misfolded tau protein aggregates associated with Alzheimer's disease and other tauopathies. Unlike conventional monoclonal antibodies that bind to their targets in a 1:1 ratio, Tauzyme utilizes a proprietary platform that allows the antibody to act as an enzyme, hydrolyzing peptide bonds within the toxic tau aggregates. This catalytic mechanism enables a single antibody molecule to neutralize thousands of target molecules, potentially increasing efficacy and reducing the inflammatory response typically associated with antibody-mediated clearance. The program was in preclinical development before Covalent Bioscience ceased operations.
